Aeroplane – 500th DJ act on Essential Selection

Cast your mind back nearly 17 years to the first ever Essential Mix, Pete Tong pumped classics such as D-Tek’s ‘Drop The Rock’, Sabres Of Paradise with ‘Smokebelch II’, DJ Duke’s ‘Blow Your Whistle’ and Apollo 440 with ‘Astral America’.

No one could have imagined that nearly two decades later, the Essential Mix would still be going strong.  Last weekend saw Belgian dance duo Aeroplane become the 500th DJ act to appear on the legendary show, with their two hour set from Circus in Liverpool hitting the airwaves.

The duo said: “This is an incredible honour. The 500th Essential Mix, it is such an iconic playground to showcase the great music that we, and all 499 DJs who have done this mix, are into playing. To get the opportunity to do this anniversary edition is unbelievable for us. We almost did not make this session due to the Volcano and many other reasons, but being here tells us we may be able to fly after all!”
